Meet Your Hosts

Kris and Steven aren't just the current custodians of Park Hall Manor - they're the heart and soul of it.

From the moment you arrive, you'll feel their genuine warmth and attention to detail. Whether it's those personal touches in your room, a friendly chat over breakfast, or local recommendations tailored to your stay, their dedication to making every guest feel at home shines through in everything they do.

"We always said if we were going to open our doors, we'd do it properly - with warmth, heart, and a real welcome."

- Kris

Park Hall Manor is more than a business to Kris and Steven. It's their home - and they're proud to share it with you.

More Than Just a Stay - A Place to Feel at Home

Whether you're here for a peaceful retreat, a romantic escape, or a base to explore the rolling hills of the Peak District, Park Hall Manor offers more than just a beautiful place to stay - it offers a feeling.

Kris and Steven believe that true hospitality means making everyone feel welcome, and that ethos is at the heart of everything they do. LGBTQ+ guests are warmly embraced, and pets are welcome by arrangement - because comfort, kindness, and inclusivity should never be optional.

Since opening their doors in July 2025, they've made it their mission to ensure every guest leaves with more than just memories - they leave feeling looked after, relaxed, and completely at home.

History

1770s - Joseph Hague Brings Wealth & Philanthropy

Successful London merchant Joseph Hague returned to his native Derbyshire and made Park Hall his home. He expanded the estate and funded a local school, cementing his legacy as a community benefactor.

1811 - A Georgian Transformation by Captain White

Hague's nephew, Captain John White, inherited the estate and rebuilt it in grand Georgian style. The Manor House seen today - with its symmetrical ashlar frontage and classical proportions - dates from this elegant redesign.

Before 1640 - Early Settlement & Medieval Routes

Long before Park Hall was built, the area showed signs of medieval settlement. Ancient enclosures and packhorse routes connecting Hayfield's wool trade to Holmfirth passed through this valley, laying early foundations for habitation and travel.

1679 - Manor Rebuilt by Edward Leigh

The Park Hall estate was rebuilt by Edward Leigh of the influential Lyme Park family. This marked the transition from a rural farmstead to a gentleman's residence within the Royal Manor of Thorniest.

1869 - Sumner's Victorian Weekend Retreat

Francis James Sumner, Glossop's first mayor and prominent mill owner, acquired Park Hall as a country escape. His ownership reflected the rising influence of industrial wealth in Victorian society.

1884 - The Manor Falls Silent

Following Sumner's death, Park Hall was left unoccupied and gradually slipped into decline. By the turn of the century, it stood empty, awaiting a new chapter.

1934 - The Poolside Era and Country Club

Park Hall was reborn as a private country club with a large outdoor lido built on the grounds. For decades, the pool served as a lively social hub before falling into disuse in the late 20th century.

1951 - Protected for the Nation

Park Hall was designated a Grade II listed building for its historic and architectural value. This status ensured that the house and its distinctive Georgian features were protected from redevelopment.

2006 - A New Beginning with Kris and Steven

Kris and Steven purchased Park Hall and began a careful restoration of the house and grounds. Over nearly two decades, they preserved its heritage while bringing it back to life.

2025 - A Historic Home Opens Its Doors

Now beautifully restored, Park Hall Manor welcomes guests as a luxury Bed & Breakfast. Visitors can enjoy centuries of history surrounded by tranquil gardens and timeless Georgian charm.
